Chromosomal Inheritance

Simple Schooling The Chromosomal Basis of Inheritance picks up where the Gregor Mendel unit left off.  Students review Mendel’s discoveries, and then proceed to learn how another scientist, Thomas Hunt Morgan, decades later proved that chromosomes are indeed the carriers of genetic traits.  Students will learn the details of each of his groundbreaking experiments with the fruit fly as well as take a close look at the history of chromosome and genome mapping.  There are vocabulary exercises as well as challenging interactive games.

Students should have completed all the macromolecule units (amino acids, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, and lipids), Mitosis, Meiosis, The Kingdoms of Life, and Gregor Mendel before attempting this advanced unit.
