The Science of horses is more than a unit study - it is a 15 unit course that covers both history and science. Part one includes the history of horses around the world, how they were brought to America, how American breeds were developed and how the work horse was used to build the New World. In addition - this section includes a primer on coat colors and markings as well as external and internal anatomy. Although this unit is in the 6-12 grade range, any horse lover that cares to listen will be able to learn about the horse through the interactive units.
The printable textbook is not required for units 1-4, however it includes the necessary worksheets for unit 5, as well as worksheets for all other units that will not be found in the interactive component.

Students will learn the difference between normal and abnormal behavior, the history of animal behavioral science, and will have an introduction to the healthy horse to get them ready for the upcoming physiology units in Part III. Part III is all about nutrition, anatomy of the digestive system, feeding, foaling and foot care. These 5 units are more advanced for the older student. Make sure you take a look at the workbook, although it is not required to complete the unit. Lots of end of unit projects are also available.
