The electron transport chain is the third part of the complete cellular respiration series which includes Part One: Glycolysis and Part Two: The Krebs Cycle. When your student has completed all three units and the worksheets that accompany parts 1 and 2, they should be well versed in the biochemical pathway of cellular respiration. This topic, along with photosynthesis, are well known test questions on just about any standardized test, including the ACT, SAT, and SSAT. Although they are probably given more details than necessary for high school level - this series pulls no punches and will get them ready for an AP Biology, college biology, or college biochemistry class.
Topics in the ETC unit include chemiosmosis, proton motive force, concentration gradients, redox reactions, and the final tally of ATP synthesis via both substrate level and oxidative phosphorylation. The activities include vocabulary matching, final tally quiz, comprehensive review, a final quiz on all three parts, and a certificate of completion of parts 1-3. You can print the quiz scores, but not the quiz itself.
